Right now, there is a large event at the Louisville Zoo. Sorry, I should have said “under” the Louisville Zoo, because this is a five kilometer underground Christmas light show. This event takes place in the Louisville Mega Cavern. The Louisville Mega Cavern was founded in 1930, and it was used a source of limestone. Since then, it has become a place for the only underground zip lines in the world and cave tours. At this time of year, there is an event called Lights Under Louisville. This is when the Mega Cavern spreads holiday cheer by putting their best decor in the cave.
This event is going until January 1st. The special show will let people drive through the cave, overall seeing 2,000,000 points of light and over 850 luminous characters. The drive lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. Not only does the Mega Cavern have the only underground zip line in the world, but it has the only underground Christmas light show in the world. The light show has many themes, this year including “Snowball Mania” and “Kentucky Christmas.” Just like last year, there will be the “Twelve Days of Christmas” installation. The show will cost $4 a person. What a deal!
This year, any two liter Canada Dry bottle bought at any Kroger location will earn you a $5 coupon for this event. If you buy a $5 coupon for Lights Under Louisville at any Wendy’s location, it will donate $2 to the Dave Thomas Foundation. The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group will do the same $2 donation, except toward the Dare to Care Foundation.
Lights Under Louisville is open every night. On weeknights it will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and on weekends it will be open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The costs differ depending on the size of your vehicle. You can find this information and more on this website: http://www.louisvillemegacavern.com/attractions/5/lights-under-louisville. I’ll see you there.
